This Teacup was also known as a “porringer” in the 19th century. Teacups were made and recorded as far back as 1750 in Charlestown, Mass. I don’t make the shallow and wide form found earlier, but a deeper porringer dating to the 1820’s. Maybe its purpose changed from being a handled bowl to becoming a teacup.  I don’t know. This is one of the mysteries.
